Meldrum Design

Talk about a dream client. Ash, owner of Meldrum Design, hired me in 2022 to shoot a spec house she designed after seeing some test shots I took of the house earlier that summer. Since then, we have collaborated on four more of her projects and I can’t wait to see what she sends my way next.

Ash is an architect in Kingfield who designs beautiful, modern, high-performance homes and buildings for clients of all budgets and backgrounds. Her houses are a lot of fun to shoot because they’re full of amazing finishes and details, well-placed windows that let in tons of natural light, and have thoughtful floorplans designed to effortlessly flow from one space to the next.

Last fall, Ash hired me to help her manage her website, social media channels, and email newsletters. Ash had been using a VA to handle these tasks, but wanted to upgrade to someone with some marketing background who could also advise her on strategy and help with some copywriting.

This spring, Ash and I are working toward expanding my taskload to include some BIM and CAD work. I’m really excited to get started on this next phase of working with her.

Santosha

Santosha is a yoga retreat business which also offers community yoga classes and writing retreats. Originally located in Phippsberg, ME, they moved to Kingfield in the spring of 2022 after outgrowing their former location.

The new location in Kingfield had formerly operated as an inn and restaurant for several decades, and the Santosha team wasn’t ready to pull the plug on the established inn operations when they first moved into the space. This co-existence of several businesses created some challenges, namely brand confusion.

In January of 2023, I signed on to help them get their ducks in a row. In addition to managing their social media presences to get things going in a consistent rhythm, I consulted on daily operations and the development of their businesses while working to help them define all their operations into a single brand identity.

Maine Huts & Trails

Maine Huts & Trails is a nonprofit operating four off-grid eco-lodges and a network of all-season trails in Western Maine. I joined the Maine Huts & Trails team during the 2023-2024 winter season. Every winter, I like to have a “mental health job;” something that gets me out of the house on a regular basis so I can talk to other adult humans face-to-face, even when the weather is bad.

The job started out as general reservations and customer service work, but with the option to do more. I helped them work through a full website redesign that began in the spring of 2024 and wrapped up in the fall. They wanted a solution that allowed them to use Salesforce more effectively, improve their user experience and general engagement, and find ways to integrate their systems and processes to cut down on busy work and make the organization more efficient.

I spent some time learning the ins and outs of their business and getting to know their customer and donor base to create personas for their guests (pin down the “who”) and define the journey they want them to experience (figure out the “whats” and “hows”). From there, I created a wireframe in Figma for the new site and assisted them in choosing the right platform for the new website, determining what to integrate and how, and picking the right developer to handle the more technical aspects of the build.

After providing some light training to their year round staff, I am happy to report that they’ve been managing the new site well and find it’s a lot friendlier than their previous website.

Katahdin Wings

The Katahdin Wings is the Northern New England chapter of the Ninety-Nines, a nonprofit international association of female pilots.

After joining the Katahdin Wings (yes, I’m a pilot!), I started managing their website and social media accounts.

Currently, we’re working on an interview series to spotlight our members. Interview snippets will be featured on social media with links back to the full interview on the website. We’re using social media to reach a wider audience and boost our chapter’s membership.

Sugarloaf Ski Club

The Sugarloaf Ski Club is a nonprofit in Carrabassett Valley, ME. Their mission is to make skiing more accessible to kids in the local community. They maintain a roster of members and host multiple fundraiser events throughout the year but needed marketing help to make it all happen.

I help the Sugarloaf Ski Club with website updates, creating event posters, putting together layouts for newsletters, and improving their email campaigns. Through these efforts, we keep members updated and advertise upcoming events.

In the fall and summer of 2024, I designed the layout for the 75th Anniversary Sugarloaf Ski Club magazine. We ended up with just under 90 full page spreads in color. I used Adobe InDesign to design each page and work in an even mix of editorial stories, photos, old newsletter excerpts, ads, and various other elements. It was a ton of work, but I’m really proud of the finished product.

Emotional Support Cactus

The Emotional Support Cactus was a pet project I started in the spring of 2020.

While the world was in a state of chaos, I made it my mission to photograph the same cactus in different locations and post regularly on Instagram. Completely unintentionally, the ESC gained quite a few followers in the middle east (mostly other cactus accounts).

Gary Pearl Photography

Gary Pearl has been a photographer for the last several decades, shooting everything from outdoor gear and wilderness adventure action shots to real estate photography and fine art.

Gary wanted to get his extensive photography catalog and portfolio online so he could showcase his work and start selling prints, but he wasn’t sure where to start. We sat down for a few brainstorming sessions and came up with a URL for his website, some options for what platforms he could use to make the website manageable for him, and a game plan for how he could get started and what he should do next. Gary’s website is live and he’s now promoting his work through Instagram and Facebook.
